description
In the midst of an onslaught of news reporting about forced migration, climate change, the destabilisation of Europe, rising nationalism, and the erosion of human rights, J & J asked exactly the right questions: What were the causes of fear, and what effects did fear have on us? How did we deal with it? What could a “space for potential” have looked like, in which ideas for another future could develop?
Taking The Art of a Culture of Hope as their title, J & J created a long-term project about our values, our fears, our hopes, and our shared future. The Art of a Culture of Hope consisted of three parts: the performance evenings Tender Provocations of Hope and Fear; the workshop format Space for Hope; and the Archive of Hope and Fear, which collected the results of these dialogues.
Together with their performers, J & J faced their own fears in Tender Provocations of Hope and Fear and reported on searching for, finding, losing, and resuscitating hope. In Berlin, they and Jeremy Wade presented Tender Provocations of Hope and Fear as an evening of sharing that included performances, readings, and project presentations about experiences with fear and hope.
For the NO LIMITS Festival, J & J, together with Jeremy Wade, invited several artists and activists with disabilities to share their experiences.
