description
At the Roskilde Festival in 2013, Jeremy Wade and Miguel Gutierrez joined forces with the architectural collective Umschichten and costume designers Michiel Keuper and Anne Sophie Malmberg to create Maximum Service at the Church of Beer. Over four days, a team of more than thirty-five collaborators built a towering open-air church from recycled beer cans, staging mass dances, rituals, and raucous performances with thousands of festival-goers.
Costumes were crafted from discarded tents and clothes, turning waste into dazzling attire. Both a critique and a celebration of communal ritual, Maximum Service transformed Roskilde into a queer church in progress for an audience of over 160,000 participants.
